To make a Croque Monsieur at home is easier than you might think! Forget about making boring sandwiches and spice up the breakfast with a different dish to break the rutine.
If you want to transform these sandwiches from a Croque Monsieur to a Croque Madame, just fry an egg for each one and place it on top before serving.
Ingredients:
- 6 slices of white bread, thick
- 6 slices of ham
- 3 slices of cheese
- 3/4 cup of Parmessan cheese
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 2 tbsp of honey mustard
- 1 tbsp of butter
- 1 tbsp of all purpose flour
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 160 degrees C.
- In a medium pot, over low heat, add the butter and wait untill it melts.
- When the butter is melted, add in the all purpose flour, salt and pepper. Don’t forget to always sift the flour first. Stir continuosly to combine.
- Slowly, pour the milk inside the pot. You need to keep stirring to avoid burning the mixture. It will transform into a thick white sauce.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and set aside to assemble the sandwiches.
- Spread some honey mustard on each slice of bread. If you want to use a different kind of mustard it will work too.
- Add one slice of cheese and two slices of ham per sandwich.
- Before closing the sandwich, add some Parmessan inside too. Reserve some to add on top. Repeat the same to make three sandwiches.
- Place the sanwiches in a baking sheet.
- Pour some of the white sauce on top of each sandwich and sprinkle more Parmessan on top.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until all the cheese is grated.
- Serve while still warm!
