Cooking tasty food is incredibly fun, these funnel cake hot dogs are the perfect option for any brunch or as appetizer to impress all your guests! They are totally uncomplicated to make and can be served with your favorite dipping sauces to add even more flavor!
I like to make them kind of rustic, messy, with no much precision, it is the aesthetic that I enjoy but with a little bit of patience you can make them as even and smooth as you want.
Ingredients:
- 12 long hot dogs
- 4 cups of flour
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup of sugar
- 1 ½ cup of milk
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- 1 tbsp of baking soda
- 2 tbsp of vinegar
- 1 tsp of baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- Oil to fry
Instructions:
- Pour the vinegar into the milk and add the baking soda. Stir and set aside for 5 minutes. This will make homemade buttermilk which is fantastic to know for when you are out of that ingredient or it is hard to find in your country,
- In a large bowl, mix together the buttermilk, 2 eggs, all purpose flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Whisk to combine really well without leaving clumps.
- Add the oil into a deep pan and wait until the oil is really hot.
- With the help of a fork, dip your hot dogs into the batter and cover them completely. Don’t worry if the batter is not even, they will be messy but delightful.
- Right away after dipping the hot dog into the batter, fry it in the pan until golden.
- Repeat the same process with all the hot dogs. Don’t fry more than three at a time or the oil can lose heat and they won’t end as crispy as if you fry them in small batches.
