Easy Cheese Scones

These cheese scones are so tasty that they don’t need any fillings, just grab and go! Perfect for a quick breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • ½ cup of butter, cold
  • 1 cup of cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup of parmesan cheese
  • 1egg, whisked
  • 2 tbsp of water
  • 2 tsp of baking poder
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C.
  2. In a large bowl, sift in your all-purpose flour. It is important to sift the flour to avoid large lumps in the batter.
  3. Incorporate the cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, baking powder, sugar and salt into the bowl. Stir to combine.
  4. Add in the cold butter. Using a fork or a knife, you will start to cut the butter into smaller pieces while mixing it with the other ingredients. Keep doing it until you get a sand texture.
  5. Pour the buttermilk and start to combine to get a soft dough. If you a have a stand mixer with a hook, here is when you want to use it.
  6. Sprinkle some flour on a flat surface and start to knead the dough.
  7. Knead for 10 minutes. You might be able to spot some butter but that is ok.
  8. Roll the dough to about ½ inch thick and cut squares, circles or triangles. Use the shape you prefer.
  9. Place the scones on a baking sheet.
  10. Mix the whisked egg with 2 tbsp of water to create an egg wash.
  11. Brush the scones with some egg wash and sprinkle a bit more of cheese on top.
  12. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
