Looking for a new breakfast addiction? Here it is! Bake cachitos filled with ham, cheese, bacon, cream cheese, sausage, anything you want.
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 cups of all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of milk, warm
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp of butter
- 1 tbsp of sugar
- 1 tbsp of instant yeast
- A pinch of salt
For the filling:
- 300 gr of ham, cubed
- 150 gr of cheese, cubed
Instructions:
- In a container, add the sugar and 1/4 cup of warm milk. Stir a bit and set aside to wait for it to activate. This will take about 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, sift in the all purpose flour and make a hole in the center, like a volcano.
- Add the egg, butter, remaining milk, and pinch of salt right in the hole. Start to combine by hand with a whisk or with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds.
- Incorporate the yeast mixture into the bowl and keep stirring for a minute.
- When completely combined, knead the dough 2-3 minutes and let it rest in a dark place to grow. Cover the bowl with a towel.
- After an hour the dough must have grown about twice its size. Divide it in half.
- Roll each dough ball into a disc and cut it into 8 triangular pieces; imagine you’re slicing a pizza.
- Take each triangle and add ham on top, just in the base. Leave some space around the edges so it will be easier to close them.
- Add some cheese on top of the ham. You can use mozarella, cheddar, any you like.
- You need to start rolling from the bottom of the triangle to the tip. Fold each end over the ham and start to roll tight to the tip of the cachito. You can leave them like that or curve them a bit to create kind of a croissant shape.
- Repeat the same with all the cachitos.
- Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C.
- Bake the cachitos for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden on top.
