Homemade Chicken Cordon Bleu

This is one of those dishes that you see in some restaurants but never try to make it at home thinking it is too much work. Well good thing is that isn’t really hard to prepare and you only need some basic ingredients.

The Cordon Bleu is going to be the star of the dish, some great sides to serve with it are: mashed potatos, roasted vegetables or your favorite green salad.

Preparation time: 1 hour
Yields
: 4 portions

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 8 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 1 egg´
  • 1 cup of all purpose flour
  • 2 cups of bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp of mustard
  • 2 tbsp of garlic powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Oil to fry

Method:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the chicken breasts with the mustard, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cover both sides of each breast really well.
  2. On a cutting board, place a chicken breast and using a rolling pin, pound the chicken until around 1 cm thick.
  3. Repeat the same step with all the chicken breast pieces.
  4. Take a chicken breast piece and put two slices of mozzarella cheese, then two slices of ham.
  5. Roll the chicken really tight. Put it in the freezer for 20 minutes.

  1. I stopped frying food 20 + years ago and started baking what I could. I figured about 30 to 45 minutes for this recipe to be cooked well done. And that is using no oil of any kind.
