Homemade Pita Bread

Pita bread is one of my favorite kind of bread for its versatility; it is great for breakfast, lunch or even dinner! It can be the perfect base for any meal as you can fill it with simple things like ham and cheese for breakfast or something like lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers, grilled chicken and some sauces for dinner.

To make pita bread at home is really easy and you just need five basic ingredients that I’m sure you probably already have! This recipe is very useful if you want to meal prep because it gives you the chance to have control of the bread size that you want.

Ingredients:

3 cups of all purpose flour
1 cup of water
1 tbsp of sugar
1 tbsp of baking powder
1 tsp of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, sift in the all purpose flour. It is important to sift the flour to avoid having lumps in the dough.
  2. Add in the bowl the sugar, salt and baking powder. Stir to combine all the dry ingredients.
  3. Make a hole in the center of the bowl and incorporate the cup of water.
  4. Using a wooden spoon, start to mix the dry ingredients with the water and when slightly combined, start to knead the dough using clean hands.
  5. When all the ingredients are completely combined and you get an even dough, let it rest for 30 minutes before cooking the bread.
  6. Divide the dough into 15 pieces and roll each of them into a ball.
  7. In a large skillet, over medium heat, place three to four little dough balls and press them down a bit.

After about 8 minutes, they will start to puff, flip them over to cook the other side.
