Shredded Flank Steak

Try something different than a simple steak and prepare this recipe for a dinner with your friends or family.

Serve it with some baked potatoes, your favorite grilled veggies or even a simple cup of rice; anything will taste amazing with this meat as the principal star of the dish.

Homemade mini empanadas filled with shredded flank steak is one of my favorite recipes to make as an entree for a night with friends. I usually serve them with a variety of dipping sauces to add extra flavor!

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 lbs of flank steak
  • 2 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 chilli pepper, optional
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • ½ cup of tomato paste
  • ½ cup of water
  • 1 tbsp of mustard
  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • A pinch of sugar
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, boil the pieces of flank steak with a pinch of salt until completely cooked. You will need to cook the meat around 1 hour.
  2. When ready, transfer the meat into a container and let it cool down.
  3. Using clean hands or the help of a fork, shred the steak really thin.
  4. Add two tbsp of oil in a skillet over medium heat and when warm, add the shredded meat in.
  5. Incorporate all the chopped veggies and condiments: bell pepper, tomatoes, onions, mustard, salt and sugar. Also, here is when you’ll add the chilli pepper if you want the dish to be spicy, it is totally optional.
  6. Stir all the ingredients together and cook for 5 minutes.
  7. Add the ½ cup of tomato paste and ½ cup of water into the skillet, slightly stir and let it cook over medium heat for another 20 minutes.
  8. Serve with your favorite side dishes or prepare some homemade flank steak empanadas!
