Chili is a comfort food that many people love. Learn how to make your own at home with fresh ingredients and your personal style.
Ingredients:
- 500 g of ground beef
- 400 g of red beans
- 2 large tomatoes, diced
- 2 cups of tomato puree
- 2 cups of water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp of chili powder
- 2 tbsp of butter
- 1 tsp of coriander
- 1 tsp of oregano
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Chop onion, bell pepper and garlic cloves into really small pieces and set aside to use later.
- Cut the tomatoes and smash them to create kind of a rustic puree. Big chunks are great for the texture so don’t be too meticulous smashing and leave some there.
- In a large pot, over medium heat, add the butter, onion, bell pepper and garlic. Stir fry them until fragrant. If you want to make the dish spicy, use a jalapeƱo without the seeds or even some of your favorite hot sauce.
- Incorporate the ground beef, chili powder, coriander, oregano, salt and black pepper. Combine well and cook for 5 minutes before adding anything else.
- Low the heat, add the tomato chunks, tomato puree and cups of water. The water helps to cook the tomato better.
- About 15-20 minutes later add in the red beans. If you are using can ones add them without the liquid. I like to use homemade beans but can ones work fantastic too.
- Cook the chili for another 15 minutes to let all the flavors combine and then it is ready!
- Serve by itself or decorate with some cheese and sour cream.
