Why You Feel Less Hungry During Summers
Here’s one fun fact. The reason why you feel less hungry during summers does not lie in your stomach. Rather it lies in your brain. There is a part of your brain called the hypothalamus that is responsible for managing hunger and regulating your temperature.
When the weather is hot (say summer, for instance) you lose a lot of water in the form of expelling sweat. Since the hypothalamus (your body’s thermostat) is not great at multitasking, the focus is on keeping your body cool. During this period, keeping your body cool is its major concern. Since the digestive process generates heat, there is a tendency for the hypothalamus to put it on hold until the body cools down.
Then there is the obvious reason for feeling less hungry because the summer heat causes you to drink more water there is a lot of water. The more water you drink, the more you sweat out, and the cycle goes on and on.
What to Do?
Pay attention to what you eat. Try to keep your meals balanced. Reducing the amount of potassium and sodium levels in the body reduces water retention, makes you less full and more hungry. Also, try to keep the foods you eat light. Watching your calorie intake will also help.
